illness policy

Our overall illness policy is very simple - you should only bring your child to Discovery Days if he/she is healthy.

Children should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. Symptoms that would warrent keeping your child home include:

  • Fever within the last 24 hours
  • Vomiting
  • Sore throat
  • Green nasal discharge
  • Diarrhea
  • Red eyes
  • Skin eruptions
  • Persistant coughing

If your child is ill and will be absent, please contact the Discovery Days office (240-2065) or email Carolyn Milkie.

Our staff members will only administer prescribed medication when sent in the original container and a parent signs the permission form granting permission.

background checks

Your child's safety is paramount during the time he/she is in our care. To that end every member of our staff consents to a background check prior to each school year and is certified in CPR through the American Red Cross.

If a member of our staff is absent, Discovery Days hires substitute teachers from a pool of interested parents. These individuals also are put through our background check process to insure your child's safety. Substitute teachers are paid $7.25 per hour and are contacted as the need arises.

If you would like to be considered as a substitute teacher, download the background check permission form and return it to the Discovery Days office.

access cards

At the beginning of each school year, families receive two white, building access cards per student. A portion of your registration fee covers the cost of your initial two cards. If a card breaks, you lose a card, or you need additional cards for pick-up or drop-off individuals, you may purchase additional cards at the Discovery Days office. Additional cards are $5 each.

Your cards should only be given to approved individuals who are on your child’s registration form.

The cards will only activate the card readers at doors #12 and #14 on the day(s) your child attends Discovery Days. Additionally, the hours of access are also limited to your specific days from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM.

The cards activated for the current school year will expire on May 21, 2017 and will not work for the next school year. You may discard them or return them to the office to be re-circulated for the next school year.
